What To Wear To Softball Tryouts

You might be trying out for a softball team for the first time, but you don’t want to look like it. Dressing like you know what you’re doing can increase your confidence, which you’ll need to perform at your best. Here’s what to wear to softball tryouts so you can both fit in and stand out.

Sliders

These compression shorts will cover you to mid-thigh and protect you when you’re determined to get to that base. No one wants leg burns, or the shriek of pain that can come with them. That’s not the kind of attention you want. Some sliders come with built-in cup supporters. They’re good investments because you can use them for a lot of sports, such as bicycling and baseball.

Shirt

You have lots of options. If you have a lucky shirt, that’s the one. Just make sure you’re not wearing a hood that will get in the way, or anything similarly loose. Tie your shirt at the waist so it won’t catch on anything. This is a good opportunity for some strategy: wear a shirt that has your name on the back if you have one, so the coaches are more likely to remember you. Or wear bright colors so you stand out.

Shorts or Sweats

If you already have a pair of softball pants, wear them. They’re reinforced so they’re less likely to tear, and the coaches will assume that you have some experience. Normal shorts and sweats are fine, especially if they wick moisture. Tryouts can make for a very long day.

Socks

You’ll need knee high athletic socks with elastic strong enough that you don’t need to keep pulling them up. Chances are you’ll be dodging other players’ cleats, or trip while catching fly balls. Protect your legs—because there’s very little crying in softball.

Cleats

No, you don’t have to go out and buy cleats if you’re not sure you’ll make the team. In that case, all you need are sneakers you can run in that have a great grip. If you’re planning to play softball whether or not you make the team—and you should—cleats are invaluable on the field. Make sure you tie the laces tightly and tuck the loose ends into the sides of your shoes.

A Little Advice

At MK Socks, we know the proper practice gear and uniform should give you a strong foundation you can trust to support you. With our socks, you can focus on playing to your full potential. You’ll need to know what to wear to softball tryouts and what not to wear, so leave the jewelry, bandanas, and distracting hair accessories at home. Good luck! You know we’ll be rooting for you.
